Greetings from moodlemoot.de 2008 / Heidelberg
This year at Heidelberg chief moodler Martin Dougiamas spoke about the future of moodle and described the sustainability of the moodle.com business model.
Main points re: moodle future:
- community (as moodle hub) development for cross institution file/course/user access. For example moodle hub is run at ministry of education and all schools are linked to this hub. New teacher of physics is able to check with other teachers in a hub for discussions/knowledge/learning object/ready courses.
- data out interfaces for export to external portfolios.
- data in interfaces for hooking learning object repositories.
- Business is mostly financed by moodle partners as well as occasional donations/subsidies/feature development requests.
- Partnership is 10% of moodle business turnover.
- Partneship is limited so that not disturb existing partners. There is no clear criteria relating to number of partners, partner profile defined, but Martin looks more into cooperation with big companies.
